About the Role
Major responsibilities will include:
-Providing innovative, timely, and solution-oriented legal support to GAO's Strategic Issues analyst team.
-Providing legal counsel on a broad range of issues, including federal human capital management, collaborative governance, the Census, tax policy and administration, management of the federal budget and debt, the regulatory process, and compliance with related laws, regulations, and policies.
-Researching and applying the law to support GAO's analysts' conduct of performance audits of agency programs and activities.
-Collaborating with colleagues across teams within the Office of the General Counsel and GAO to ensure high quality audit products.
-Reviewing GAO products before publication to ensure they reflect an accurate and objective understanding and application of the law as it relates to the federal program or activity under review.
-Providing legal assistance and support to GAO clients providing Congressional testimony, often under short deadlines.
-Analyzing legislative proposals to determine potential effects and implications for federal policies and GAO.
-Drafting legal memoranda, legal opinions, and sections of audit reports.
-Providing technical and legislative drafting assistance to Congress, often under short deadlines.
-Providing concise oral presentations of legal issues at high-level GAO meetings and Congressional briefings.
